What is IG education in Egypt?

Tracy Huesso: its is The International General Certificate of Secondary Education and you can use it to learn abroad

Colby Millberg: IGCSE stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education and it is recognised all over the world, it is taken by students who are between the age of 14-16 (Year 10 and 11). You obtain a British education and it is similar to the GCSEs which are taken in England, but in other countries, people take IGCSEs. People taking their IGCSEs will take 8 O Level (ordinary level) exams, either 4 subjects each year for two years, or they study the 8 O Levels for two years and sit all the exams for the 8 subjects at the end of two years. There are many subjects available to be taken such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths, English (British), Sociology, Business Studies, History, Geography, Arabic and MUCH more languages and subjects. When someone finishes their IGCSEs and sits their exams, they may go to university right aft! er and some people take A levels (advanced level) which are harder and more into depth and advanced. A levels consist of two different levels/exams. A level consists of AS and A2, taking A Levels means you will take both AS and A2, A2 is harder than AS and less people take them in Engypt. but it is not entirely up to you, certain jobs need certain A Levels. For example, Engineering needs Maths and Physics AS. An IGCSE education will be able to get you into any college in over 120 countries around the world, including Egypt. There are two examination boards, Cambridge and Edexcel. Their exams are different but they are all IGCSE exams, Edexcel tend to be more easier than Cambridge. Science subjects consist of 3 exams which are theory, multiple choice and alternative to practical. Some subjects consist of only 2 exams and some consist of one long exam (Edexcel Business Studies). The grading system consists of 8 grades from A* to G, A* is higher than an A and G is the lowes! t you can get, there is another grade which is U which stand f! or ungraded, exams could be ungraded if a student talks in an exam. In order to pass, you have to get at least a C. Anything below a C will be considered failing, the percentage for C varies between each subject and each year. In order to make it more fair for IGCSE students, Cambridge and Edexcel look at all the grades people have got and produce a grading curve. For example, if the exam was easy and everyone got a high grade, they will make the A* a higher percentage so that not everyone gets A* but only the ones who got really good grades. It does work the other way, If the exam was really hard and everyone got bad grades then the grades will be at a lower percentage so that people have a chance to get an A*. IGCSE is harder than the American system, but it is more appreciated by people and universities in Egypt. I think I have covered everything here, if you have any more answers add additional information and I will be checking up every now and then. :)...Show more
