Stanton Valdivia: Hi ya okei!I like this question!Well... It certainly doesn't come from society in general. I mean...c'mon where in history has man shown that he can bring true peace and true security to the world. We are all human! History to present day shows... how we as humans tend to rule. Perpetual wars upon wars,Nuclear holocaust or pollution of ourselves to our own detriment is proof of greed and lust for power!Just as why we were told for centuries... man cannot know the knowledge of what is good and what is bad. We have no guidance otherwise. All is asked of us is that we just rely on one that knows, that we as free wills cannot rule ourselves in decency and truth. But free thinking humans think and blindly assume we are the center of all that exists. Which even the ancients of china beheld was not possible as human kind.Satan is not the fault ,human! s are not the fault,God is not the fault. Being created as a free will ,all aware creation has decisions as to is God Right.. or is he wrong. So far.. I see humans with out guidance and morals, many become immoral..Satan Who was just as perfect as we.... chose power of control and said we are all created free wills, so let humans and himself do what we want and see if we do not survive without you. Are we surviving? or are we drowning in our own mire? Thanks! Nice question!...Show more
Dick Maisenbacher: Morality, I believe, is simply the 'rules' one obeys to live in a somewhat peaceful society. If I have stuff and you want it, I can never leave my stuff alone because you might steal it. If we agree that I won't take your stuff if you don't take mine, I won't hurt you if you don't hurt me, etc, it allows us to do other, more useful things. Society advances and we progress until another problem arises, and we make another 'rule.' Human nature being what it is, we! don't always adhere to the rules, so we make a rule for when ! we fail to follow rules - we apologize, or make restitution, which eases our conscience and allows the person we've wronged to forgive us. I don't think 'morality' is anything that actually exists. If it was something real, I think we'd all have the same morals, but it's pretty clear that, while many societies share many of the same morals, there all many things that are moral in one culture and not moral in another, which seems to me to be proof that morality is something arbitrary and invented - probably invented way back before we were even people, because even animals have their own 'morality.'Interesting question!...Show more

Donald Caravalho: There are no gods. There is no science of God. All religions were invented by humans. All gods are myths. In ancient times people were very afraid of storms and earthquakes and volcanoes and many things. They! thought the gods or the spirits of the ancestors might help them, if t! hey worshiped and sacrificed. So people invented the idea of gods. Gods could get angry and kill whenever they wanted. Gods could give a good harvest, or they could cause famine. These stories helped people understand the good and evil actions of humans, and the random acts of nature. Then a few people made religion so that certain individuals could gain wealth and power. "Give money to our temple (or whatever building) or we'll tell everyone you're doing witchcraft and you'll burn." Just like paying protection money to the mafia. Danette Slotnick: Christianity is not properly represented by the Inquisition and the Salem Witch Trials. Though these things happened in the name of "Christianity" it does not mean that this is what Christianity teaches. Instead, Christianity professes conversion by love not by torture. Those who used coercive means did so against the Christian scriptures.â¢Matt. 5:43-44, "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.' 44 'But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.'" â¢Rom. 16:19, "For the report of your obedience has reached t! o all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in ! what is good, and innocent in what is evil." â¢Col. 4:5-6, "Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned, as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each person." â¢1 Tim. 3:7, "And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he may not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil." There have been times in the Christian church where those who have claimed to follow Christ have done horrible things. They have done these things not because Christ teaches them, but because they have not listened to the word of God. As is frequently established in history when anyone comes into complete political and military control abuse almost always follows. The Inquisition was a Roman Catholic invention intended to root out all sorts of "heresies." The Inquisition used torturous means to force confessions out of people. Thousands were killed merc! ilessly and unjustly. The Protestant Reformation distances itself from the Catholic Inquisition, yet has its own sordid history. The witch trials we had here in America among some Puritans is an example. They allowed their paranoia and ignorance to overtake reason and scripture. As a result, many people were killed because they were accused of being witches -- and they weren't.Again, this does not mean that Christianity is false anymore than the police force is false because one or two cops did bad things in the name of the law. Instead of looking at the two cops, the whole of the police force, its goals, other cops, and its history of sacrifice and protection must be examined as well. The same holds true for Christianity. It has a great history of helping countless people, establishing orphanages, building shelters, helping famine-ravaged countries, and seeks to aid the downtrodden. If anyone wishes to condemn Christianity because of the failures of its members, then will! they also look at its successes and approve of Christianity? It would ! only be fair to look at the whole of Christian history and more importantly at what the Bible actually teaches, in particular the New Testament, from which Christianity is derived.Believe in Christianity because Jesus Christ claimed to be God in flesh, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and has given us the New Testament. Believe in Jesus because He performed miracles in front of eyewitnesses, and He said that He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Logan Bero: Most animals have a system of morality, only it would be different in one way or another from ours. It's an evolved trait. For example, a wolf in a pack who plays too rough will not be played with, killing your pack members over a game is immoral so you may be killed, etc, etc...Morality tends to be more complex with social animals like humans, dogs, wolfs, many monkeys, etc sin! ce it is good for the society to survive. You don't gain moral insight by eating a fruit.Hell, you don't even get a full day's serving of fiber by eating a fruit. To think simply taking a bite out of a pomegranate somehow gave mankind a fully fleshed out understanding of the moral differences in right and wrong is somewhere north of insane in my book. That said, morality comes from nature. It is inborn to each species through evolution in whatever manifestation best helps that species survive. We humans, for example, are social anima! ls and social animals are encoded not to kill their own without reason,! especially not members of their own immediate family or tribe. Why? Because you cannot have a stable social structure when every member is living under constant fear of being murdered by the others. The trade off made in a social structure is that you won't kill me, but in turn, I won't kill you either. It is an implied social contract so basic that even ants and fish understand it.And we are not alone in this.Look at any other social animal group. Packs of wolves don't murder each other willy-nilly. The only time they might is when a new alpha male is competing for pack leadership. But even when feeding, they don't kill one another to get more of the moose carcass, even though more food might be to their advantage. The GREATER advantage is the maintenance of the social structure.Piranha are the same way. Watch a good old fashioned piranha feeding frenzy and notice how, even in the frenzy, they don't murder one another.Apes, meerkats, gazelles, horses, dolphins, tetras, do! gs, lions, ants, penguins, hyenas, loaches, bees, etc, etc, etc. Across insects, birds, fish, and mammals, the natural instinct among social animals NOT to kill their own is deeply encoded in the genes. And it goes beyond killing to theft, assault, and a number of other behaviors that can potentially disrupt the social stability of the overall group. These are not the whole of human morality, but they are most definitely at the core of it. The rest of human morality comes from a continuous refinement of thousands and thousands of years of living in stable communities and studying (and applying) law, ethics, philosophy, science, politics, economics, and other social and intellectual sciences. Morals change constantly as we learn more about ourselves and our world. Always have.(Even most moral laws in the world's holy texts can be shown to exist in legal codes either pre-dating that text or existing several continents away having never been influenced by that text. Why? Because! the basis of those similar moral beliefs are internal to our kind, not! externally handed down to us. Of course all the different tribes would come up with similar rules for behavior within their tribe.)Even people who do believe in the Bible used it to morally justify slavery not 150 years ago. Now days, people claim that SAME book proves that slavery is immoral. Two hundred years before that people used the book to literally justify the burning and drowning of people accused to be witches as moral. Now, not only is it NOT moral to burn anyone for any reason, but pagan religions are protected as valid by law and the Bible crowd happily goes along with that. Why?Because the book is not an actual, stable, eternal basis for consistent moral belief. Morality changes on a social level and then we re-interpret the book to match (and then believers pretend that's what the book *really* said all along and that previous generations just misunderstood it). There is NO evidence that morality comes from religious belief.Do believers only know rape and murd! er and theft is wrong because a bronze age myth tells them so? Do they have absolutely no self-control or inherent knowledge of right and wrong without their gilded edge, leather bound textbooks to tell them the difference? I would go so far as to say that the mythology that the subconscious is a powerful force that cannot be dealt with is just part of the process of denial. Deep fear (or what we call "insecurity") can erode civilized behavior, and self-justification takes care of what is l! eft of conscience or guilt. [Maybe it is that denial which is really th! e definition of sin, that is, KNOWING what we are doing is wrong, but doing it anyway. Consider for example Jesus' words on the cross: "Forgive them, for they know not what they do."]Your question jives with one I asked recently, and so I will post a link here. My guess is that your question sprang, like mine, from the persistent pain of encountering people these days whose behavior seems to indicate that they have no conscience.
