Arlene Maycumber: There is a prophecy that says "The hearts of the children will be turned to the fathers and the hearts of the fathers will be turned to the children".We believe that the modern interest in genealogy is fullfillment of this prophecy. We believe that everyone needs baptism to return to live with God. It needs to either be done in this life (while living) or done for you you by someone else (aka proxy baptism) after you have died and then in the next life you'll have the opportunity to accept or reject that baptism that has been performed in your behalf. Families are linked together and the work is done for them in the temples. We believe that marriages and families can be eternal units according to the plan that heavenly father has for us....Show more
Lawanna Livsey: We believe in tracing the roots of our ancestors not just as a way to know their names; but as a way to bring forth a spirtual connectedness to them. By knowing their names, where t! hey came from, who they were, we start to build our knowledge of who we are.
Agustina Stimmel: Largely through baptism records, from what I know. But I don't know the details.
Ardath Templer: socmum16 has it right.Friendly...had it partial right...and in some instances more right than some would like to admit.Socko just has issues that should really be resolved.
Will Camus: The last words of the Old Testament were:Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. We believe the redemption of the dead is part of the keys restored by Elijah. Those that died without the Gospel will have to choice to accept it in the spirit world. They will still need ordinances of salvation. We may perform these by proxy. Research and temple work is a! means for us to turn our hearts to our fathers....Show more! p>
Tory Clapper: Mormons are so interested in Geneology, so that they can perform proxy ordinances such as baptism for the dead, endowments, and sealings for their anscestors. Unfortunately they really aren't all the concerned with their actual family history. Just with the names and vital stats of their anscestors so they can "do their temple work" and move on to the next anscestor.
Devon Kalberer: The IGI is a useful source in someways but beware there are gaps in resources and information is based on what they are told and may not actually be accurate.I have found that places have been placed in the wrong counties, for example Deptford London was listed as Kent, entries have been omitted between updates of IGI and spellings are often wildly inaccurate. For Example Thomas Knock B___ and Eliza Millington S_____ appeared as Thomas Rock and Eliza Shellings.Be aware of it's limitations and read the info that accompanies it because it is a great temptation to dive str! aight for the list of names....Show more
Monroe Rainey: Titus3:9"But avoid foolish questions, and GENEALOGIES, and contentions, and striving about the law; for they are UNPROFITABLE AND VAIN".I left the Mormon church as a young woman. I could not bear the thought of having to spend all eternity sharing my husband with many other women. I could not bear the thought of being married to some old codger I did not love and being one of thirty five wives. The Mormons taught polygamy in heaven at that time. It was not easy leaving a religion where generations of my ancestors were Mormon. This year I learned my great & great great grandparents were polygamists. I have been angry at them and at the church that encouraged them to do this evil thing. Truth is the only thing I can count as profit from knowing this. I lost all respect for 4 of my grandparents this year. I also became very proud of myself for having the guts to stand against my family and community against s! omething they pass off as good, but in truth is evil....Show more
